“Won’t beg for meetings anymore”: NSS chief accuses Kerala CM of arrogance after two denials

Nair Service Society (NSS) General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair on Saturday accused Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan of arrogance after his request for a meeting was denied twice.

Speaking at the 112th NSS annual budget meeting held at the organisation’s headquarters in Perunna, Changanassery, Sukumaran Nair expressed strong dissatisfaction over the Chief Minister’s response.

Asserting that the NSS would not “beg” for an appointment, Nair said there had been a change in the Chief Minister’s attitude and made it clear that the organisation would not bow to government pressure.

Sukumaran Nair stated that he would “not beg anymore” or pursue a meeting with the Chief Minister. He alleged that Satheesan had been displaying his power and showing “blatant arrogance” since assuming office.

He also criticised Satheesan’s earlier remarks about community leaders, stating that the NSS would not remain dependent on or subservient to any government.

Nair questioned what he described as a contradiction in Satheesan’s conduct, recalling that before becoming Chief Minister, Satheesan had visited the NSS headquarters and waited for hours seeking the community’s support during elections. He criticised Satheesan’s public remarks that elected representatives do not need to bow before community leaders.

The NSS leadership had formally sought a meeting with the Chief Minister twice to discuss proposed amendments related to the Companies Act and Income Tax guidelines.

The request was a follow-up to a petition submitted during the previous government’s tenure. However, the Chief Minister’s Office declined to provide an appointment on both occasions.
